Categorisation Assessments
A categorisation assessment evaluates a prisoner’s security ranking to ensure they are held in the lowest security level consistent with public safety. These reports provide independent clinical evidence to challenge or support a prisoner’s security classification during annual or ad hoc reviews.

- To challenge a decision to maintain a prisoner in high-security (Category A) conditions
- To support a progressive move to open conditions (Category D) for resettlement preparation
- To assess if a prisoner’s mental health or vulnerability necessitates a lower security environment
